Our Story

Purchased in 2016 by Earl and Jo Meek, Putiki Estate is a true Waiheke story — one of heritage, heart, and a vision to create a space where family and friends can come together to celebrate life’s special moments.

Originally built in the 1980s, the estate was a beautiful reflection of its time — solid bones, sweeping sea views, and timeless character — but it was ready for a little extra care and attention. With their long history on Waiheke Island, Earl and Jo saw the potential to breathe new life into the property while honouring its original charm.

They enlisted Heidi from The Curated Space to reimagine the interiors with effortless coastal elegance, and Fiona Kelly from GrateArt and Louise Lenson from Backline Landscapes to reshape the grounds into lush, resort-style spaces that invite relaxation and connection.

Today, Putiki Estate stands as both a luxury retreat and a deeply personal family home — thoughtfully designed for generational gatherings, reunions, and celebrations. Every corner has been crafted with togetherness in mind — from the alfresco dining area and private pub to the sweeping lawns and pool that overlook the bay.

For Earl and Jo, Putiki is more than a place to stay — it’s a place to belong, to reconnect, and to make lasting memories with the people who matter most.

The Thomas Meeke Pub

Earl’s favourite corner of Putiki Estate is The Thomas Meeke Pub — a little slice of Ireland tucked away at the end of the tennis court. Named in honour of his father, who came to New Zealand from Ireland in 1922, this sleek black-and-gold pub brings a touch of heritage and heart to the property. Though small in size, it’s rich in character, complete with a Guinness tap, a fiddle on the wall, and shelves of old Irish memorabilia. It’s the perfect spot to gather after a game, pour a pint, and share a story or two — close enough to the main house to feel part of the estate, yet far enough to feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Having travelled the length of the country (and crossed two ferries) before finding its home on Waiheke, The Thomas Meeke Pub has become an iconic feature of the estate — and a true celebration of family, craftsmanship, and the joy of good company.
